What about the Data Protection Act?
Your role
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published advice for elected and prospective councillors and has specific guidance for political campaigning too. In performing your duties as a representative of residents, you'll usually have implied consent to hold a person's details. However, these details shouldn't be used for campaigning unless you have the person's consent. If you need further advice, contact the ICO for more information.
Our role
As a data controller, we have a responsibility for protecting the personal details you add to eCasework, which we've addressed in our privacy policy. You can view our entry on the ICO's Data Protection Register here.
